Meta-tag groups


The most widely used groups are: NAME - for providing general-purpose information and HTTP-EQUIV - for specifying in the body of the page the equivalents of the HTTP protocol headers.

In HTML5, the charset attribute is standardized, to specify the encoding of the document (see the example below). It is supported by all modern browsers and correctly recognized by all search engines.

According to the purpose of the information provided, we can conventionally identify the most widely used groups:

  • * Information about the document: authorship, sources, etc .;
  • * Information for search robots: keywords, short description, and etc .;
  • * Instructions for browsers: code pages, cookies, automatic update intervals;
  • * Instructions for specialized software and various services, for example - indication for programs of parsers of the address with a copy of the data of the page prepared for machine processing.
